Maintaining the hearing aidYour child’s hearing aid requires daily maintenance and with proper care, a hearing aid will give your child reliable service. The hearing aid should be cleaned daily in order to ensure that earwax does not invade the hearing aid components. Daily cleaningClean the hearing aid daily with a soft, dry cloth. Never wash the hearing aid with water, cleaning solutions or other liquids. When the hearing aid is not in use, it is a good idea to leave the battery drawer open, so as to ventilate the aid and allow it to dry. Batteries The battery, which provides current to the hearing aid, needs to be checked and changed at regular intervals. These batteries may last from a few days to a few weeks. Make sure to store and discard batteries in a place inaccessible to children. The earmould tubeIt is important that the earmould tube to the hearing aid is of the correct length and is clean, unbroken and soft. A tube of incorrect length may feel uncomfortable and make it difficult to keep the hearing aid in place. It can also form a pinched bend, which could block the sound. The earmouldIt is very important to keep the earmould clean and to position it correctly in the ear. Otherwise the sound from the hearing aid may not be correctly channelled into the infant’s ear and its sound quality can seem poor. Read more about earmoulds
