Once the most suitable hearing aid model has been chosen in consultation with the hearing healthcare professional, the next step is to have an impression made of the ear canal.
It is important that the fit of the hearing aid or earmould in the ear canal is perfect to ensure optimum hearing aid sound quality as well as user comfort.
Making an impression of the ear |
1. The hearing healthcare professional looks into the ear with an otoscope to check for:
Ear wax |
Flakes of skin |
Irritated areas |
Unexpected cavities |
Perforated eardrum |
2.The next step is to place cotton wool into the ear canal to create a ’stop’.
3. Then the impression material is injected into the ear – it may feel as if the entire ear is filled, but that is not the case.
4. After some time the impression material is removed, and the ear impression is finished.
